Former FBI agent says renewed activity could signal new leads in Nancy Guthrie case

Retired FBI agent Jason Pack believes the FBI returning to Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson neighborhood is a “good sign.”

“It means the Guthrie case is still in motion. What looks quiet from the outside is the investigative cycle turning," Pack told Fox News Digital.

Federal agents descended on the 84-year-old’s neighborhood Thursday afternoon, though the reason for their return remains unclear.

“When agents canvass for doorbell and surveillance footage in the first 48 hours, they are working with a rough timeline – but timelines sharpen,” Pack said.

“As cell phone records come back, as Walmart purchase data is analyzed, as the suspect’s clothing gets traced through retail channels, the timeline tightens and suddenly a neighbor’s answer that seemed irrelevant three weeks ago becomes critical.”

FBI continues door-to-door search as tips slow in Nancy Guthrie case

FBI agents returned to Nancy Guthrie’s neighborhood Thursday, continuing to knock on doors and chase leads in the suspected abduction of the 84-year-old.

While federal officials told Fox News' Matt Finn they expect to have a presence in the area for several days, they said that the steady stream of tips has started to taper off.

The FBI is still urging anyone with information to call their tip line as they conduct follow-ups throughout the Tucson community.

The update comes as Nancy’s daughter, "Today" show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, made an emotional visit to her NBC colleagues in New York City Thursday.

FBI agents return to Nancy Guthrie's neighborhood

FBI agents returned to Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson neighborhood on Thursday, canvassing the area surrounding the 84-year-old’s home.

The continued search comes one day after Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed authorities connected one of the gloves found in the area to an employee at a local restaurant across the street.

The reason for federal authorities’ return was not immediately clear.

The co-anchor is expected to return to the show, but is currently focused on “supporting her family and working to bring Nancy home,” the statement said.
