Fashionistas, designers, celebrities, models and the media descended Thursday on the Skylight at Moynihan Station, crowding in to see the New York Fashion Week collection of Barcelona powerhouse, Desigual – a band of 25 international designers inspired by the Mediterranean Sea and the pumping energy of Ibiza nightclubs.

Desigual’s “Global Traveller” Spring/Summer 2017 line lives somewhere between the ultra-modern digital world and a destination that is entirely unplugged.

The designers describe the line as “cuts that are comfortable while hugging the body’s curves.”

The 48 looks ranged from embroidered denim and bomber jackets, button-up shirts, maxi peasant skirts, crocheted tote bags to khaki military-style rompers. There was truly something for every woman.

Desigual was founded in 1984 by Swiss businessman Thomas Meyer.

In 2011, the company started collaborating with the French designer Christian Lacroix.

The brand has 400 brick-and-mortar shops across the globe but is headquartered in Barcelona, Spain.

In 2014, many fashion insiders predicted that line would overtake Zara, another hugely successful Spanish clothing company. Although that hasn’t happened yet, it’s not out of the question. Desigual has moved into cosmetics, housewares, sportswear and shoes in the last two years, as well as strived to open shops in airports, train stations and hotels.

The Spring/Summer 2017 line is not for the faint-of-heart consumer – much of it is vibrantly-colored and textured, bold pieces for the woman who’s unafraid to take over the room, or the beach.
