A Virginia first-grader with special needs beat 50 competitors to win a national handwriting contest.
Anaya Ellick, of Chesapeake, Virginia, competed in the special-needs category of the Zaner-Bloser National Handwriting Contest on Thursday. Ellick does not use prostheses but writes with her forearms, Fox News Insider reported.
The special-needs category was started five years ago, according to Zaner-Bloser’s Facebook page. The company is an education curricula and digital resources provider. The category includes students who have intellectual, physical or developmental disabilities.
Ellick won $1,000 and a trophy. Her school, Greenbrier Christian Academy, was also awarded a gift certificate to purchase print and digital resources.
