6-year-old girl battling cancer sworn in as an honorary police officer, fulfilling her dream

Speed demons and law busters in one Texas town may have met their match in 6-year-old Abigail Rose Arias, whose dream of becoming a police officer to exact revenge on her terminal cancer came true on Thursday in a special ceremony.
“I promise to keep fighting the bad guys until all my cancer is gone,” she pledged, according to KHOU.com.

Doctors say they aren’t sure how much time the newest chief at the Freeport Police Department has left, KHOU.com said. Abigail was first diagnosed two years ago and after 80 rounds of chemotherapy was in remission for five months, but the disease returned in both lungs.

Her job now as police chief, she said, is to get after the bad guys, like the cancer in her body.
“They beat up my body,” she told the news outlet. “So I want to help the bad guys go away and I want to help this cancer go away in like, 5 seconds.”

Clad in a uniform decorated with donated patches and challenge coins, Abigail was sworn in by Freeport Police Chief Ray Garivey, who first met Abigail and learned of her wish in December.

To mark the momentous occasion, the city council even proclaimed Feb. 7 to be her day.
“It felt neat inside my heart and inside my body I felt excitement and all of the love,” Abigail told KHOU.com.

Her parents, Rueben and Eileen Arias, said their strong faith is helping them cope with her prognosis.
“We believe in God. The doctors can say what they say medically but we know that God is the one that has her destiny in his hands,” Rueben Arias told KHOU.com.
