New mom hits back at woman who body-shamed her at swimming pool

A Missouri woman who recently gave birth is hitting back at a stranger who shamed her for showing stretch marks at her local swimming pool. reported that in early August, Lexi Sinclair, of Kansas City, went to the pool wearing a bikini with her 4-month-old son Christian in tow. In a Facebook post that’s going viral, Sinclair explains a seemingly friendly encounter with an unnamed woman in her 50s that quickly turned sour.

At first, the woman asked about Christian’s weight, sleeping habits and age, Sinclair wrote in the Aug. 2 post. But next, her comments shifted toward Sinclair’s own biology.

“She then proceeded to tell me that the men at the pool would feel more comfortable if I was in a one-piece swimsuit because a bikini isn't appropriate for a mother, especially one who's ‘still recovering,’” Sinclair wrote in the post, which she marked with a “feeling proud” expression on the social media site.

“Anyone who knows me knows I had a few words ... ” she continued in the post. “But instead I just smiled, kissed my son and told her, ‘I'm proud of my body. In just one year I've gained 50 pounds, and lost 37. I've grown a human and given birth to a beautiful miracle. My body provided food for my child. So, no, my body might not be the best sight for other men to see. My stretch marks and tummy pudge might not be sexy. But they're proof that I've done something amazing, and I have a man that loves me and finds me even sexier and more beautiful now.”

As of Tuesday morning, Sinclar’s message, which includes a photo of her and Christian, had garnered support from more than 24,000 people who have expressed their support by sharing the new mom’s post.
