A Georgetown University student has died after contracting what's suspected to be meningitis.

In a letter to students Tuesday, the university says nursing sophomore Andrea Jaime died at a local hospital on Tuesday. Testing is underway to confirm that the 19-year-old Jaime died of meningitis and to find out what kind.

The university says it has taken steps to protect anyone who may have been in close contact with Jaime and that the school is consulting medical professionals and the D.C. Department of Health.

The school says staff and students don't need to do anything out of the ordinary to protect themselves.

Friends of Jaime say they're grieving her sudden death and describe her as passionate, charismatic and enthusiastic.

A prayer service for Jaime was held on campus Tuesday night.
