Bugaboo International is recalling more than 50,000 of its Cameleon and Donkey strollers in the United States and Canada because its handle can detach and cause an injury to a child.

The company, whose high-end strollers are popular in both urban areas and suburbs, said Tuesday that a button on the stroller's carrycot/seat carry handle can become disengaged and cause the handle to detach. That could mean a young passenger could fall or choke.

Bugaboo has received 58 reports of carry handles detaching. No injuries have been reported.

The recall includes approximately 46,300 strollers in the U.S. and 4,440 in Canada.

The strollers were sold at Buy Buy Baby, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Toys R Us and other stores nationwide. They were also sold on the Bugaboo website and at other online retailers.

The Cameleon stroller was sold between September 2009 and June 2012 for approximately $980. The Donkey stroller was sold from January 2011 through December 2012, priced between $1,200 and $1,600.

The strollers were sold with a base, sun canopy and other accessories in various colors. A fabric tag on the side of the sun canopy has Bugaboo and the model name.

Consumers are advised to immediately remove the carry handle from the strollers. They can contact Bugaboo for a free replacement handle. The strollers can continue to be used while awaiting the replacement handle, the company said.
