Lady Gaga threatens to sue breast milk ice cream company over ‘Baby Gaga’ flavor

Lady Gaga wants fans to know that she does not endorse a breast milk ice cream called "Baby Gaga" created by The Licktators.

The singer has reportedly threatened legal action against the controversial ice cream company, claiming the flavor constitutes a trademark infringement on the name “Gaga” and will confuse consumers into thinking she supports the ice cream, reports The Independent.

In a letter dated Aug. 10, lawyers representing Lady Gaga, real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, have ordered The Licktators to remove all marketing and social media posts featuring the Baby Gaga ice cream by Aug. 25.

The Licktaters have other flavors named for music icons including “John Lemon,” with lemon curd, and “Jiggy Pop,” a flavor with crushed popcorn pieces. But Baby Gaga, says the ice cream company, was created as an homage to commemorate the birth of Princess Charlotte in May, and has nothing to do with the “Applause” crooner.

A spokesperson for the The Licktaters told the Independent that the company is refuting any claims and “will not back down over spurious trademark claims.” Since the world “gaga” is in the Oxford English Dictionary, and is generally associated with baby sounds, the ice cream maker says the singer has no legal ground to copyright it.

"The Licktators say that the branding and social media  for Royal Baby Gaga breast milk ice cream, created by Nadine O’Connor, neither names nor features Lady Gaga, or infringes the mark ‘Lady Gaga’,” the company said in a statement.

"We don’t lick boots, and we don’t be dictated to. However, we are sending complimentary tubs of our ice cream to Lady Gaga for chilling out to as a gesture of peace and goodwill."
