LOS ANGELES – In 2007, Warner Bros. gave David E. Kelley the green light to produce a pilot for a Wonder Woman series starring Adrianne Palicki. The show failed at the pilot stage, and Kelley tells FOX411 the iconic super hero is a tough nut to crack, for TV at least.
“When you are going to do a super hero character, you’re competing with special effects. Television budgets are hard to match with respect to the future world,” he told FOX411 at the Television Academy Hall of Fame induction dinner. “Audiences are used to seeing the (film) exploits of Iron Man and Batman and that can’t be accomplished in TV. That’s the hurdle for anyone in the super hero franchise to take on.”
Indeed earlier this year CW pulled the plug on “Amazon,” a “Smallville” style show that had been in the development stage for almost two years.
However, Kelley, the creator of "Ally McBeal” and “Boston Legal,” is confident someone can figure out “Wonder Woman.”
“Someone is going to crack it. It’s a great franchise and very viable,” he added. “I’m sorry it didn’t work out when we gave it our shot. But I think you will be seeing it one day.”
