Selena Gomez made headlines over the weekend, but it had nothing to do with her Canadian bad-boy on-again-off-again beau.
No, this time it had to do with the raging battle on the Gaza Strip.
Like many stars, Selena decided to weigh in on the two weeks of fighting between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas that has killed roughly 500 Palestinians and 20 Israelis.
The 21-year-old star posted an image on Instagram Friday that said: “It’s About Humanity. Pray for Gaza.”
“Please pray for those families and babies today,” it continued. “Please always remember what's important in life. It's not any of this. We are here to help, inspire and love. Be that change. #wearethenextgeneration.”
The post has received more than 600,000 likes. But the Instagram post also brought insta-anger.

The civilians in Gaza are I'm danger because of Hamas. Hamas is the one killing the women and children.”
Selena, whose post was covered in Times of Israel, also had supporters.
One person wrote: “Guys. Israel just bombed a hospital in Gaza. They seriously have no way of making themselves look good in this situation. Why are they defending themselves against ill people in a hospital? What were they going to do to them? #PrayForPalestine”
Later, on Saturday, Selena appeared to try to soften things.
She posted another Instagram photo on the Gaza unrest, but this time with an image of a woman with her back to the camera, sitting on a beach and meditating.
Selena wrote: “And of course to be clear, I am not picking any sides. I am praying for peace and humanity for all!”
Other stars have posted messages on the recent bloody battle between Israel and Hamas, with some, like Rihanna, whose posts expressed sympathy for Palestinians then deleting them after getting criticized.
