Welcome to social media, Salma Hayek!

The Mexican actress made her debut on social media this week with her first post on Facebook followed by a group selfie on Instagram.

“Life is about new discoveries, so today after decades of a self-imposed allergy to technology, I am losing my social media virginity!” Hayek wrote on her official Facebook page. “I want to be there for the people who have supported me for all these years. Because I am grateful to them and I am hoping that they get to know me better. I am excited to start this new adventure with you and I hope that it will be a fun and inspiring one.”

The actress, who participated in a panel at the Advertising Week Europe in London on Tuesday with senior Facebook executive Nicola Mendelsohn, said she would be using her social media accounts to continue the “peaceful revolution” of tackling issues such as age discrimination and body image.

“This is the strength of technology, everybody gets to have a voice,” said Hayek, who also remarked she was put off by social media because it makes people lose a personal interaction with one another, according to The Guardian.

"I have this idea that I [like to be personally] present, I’m not always calling, texting. When I am with you, I am with you. And I feel sometimes people are not so present because of social media.”

For her first Instagram post, Hayek, 48, shared a selfie where she was surrounded by people who attended the London event.

“So, I’m just learning the #selfie thing, obviously I suck! My jaw looks huge and deformed, PLEASE help me with some tips!” she captioned it.

A Twitter account is expected in a couple of days, but the “Frida” actress seems to have already gotten the hang of it.

In just her first day, the actress posted 10 more pictures including a selfie with designer Christopher Kane and a regram of a fan drawing of her face.

“Welcome to Instagram to the smart intelligent force that is @salmahayek I’m afraid I’m home with no pens, so I’ve given you a new rouge hairdo. #artisticlicense,” the photo was captioned.

Hayek has had the official Facebook page since 2013, but until now, it was only used to share news stories of the actress’ work in empowering women and girls.
