Coldplay were victims of rock and roll excess at the NME Awards last night when their table was destroyed by a rival band, but Yoko Ono was the real target.

Chris Martin's band were said to have been left stunned and confused after Bring Me The Horizon frontman Oli Sykes jumped on their table, stomping on glasses and bottles until it keeled over.

Coldplay guitarist Jonny Buckland had to move out the way to avoid the carnage.

It has been claimed that Oli lashed out at Coldplay due to the similarities between the band's "A Head Full of Dreams" album artwork and the cover of Bring Me The Horizon's 2013 "Sempiternal."

But Oli told The Sun Online that it was all just a big mistake, as he was in fact aiming for John Lennon's widow Yoko, who picked up the NME Inspiration award.

He asked: "Was it Coldplay's table? It wasn't intentional. We were aiming for Yoko Ono's table. Does it look intentional?

"He said he wanted to hear us so I brought it as close as possible. My sound just wasn't right that's why I went onto Chris Martin's table."
