Miranda Kerr has been on a high since her engagement to Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel in July. But just three years ago, the Australian model found herself in a deep depression.

"When Orlando [Bloom] and I separated, I actually fell into a really bad depression," the model told Elle Canada. "I never understood the depth of that feeling or the reality of that because I was naturally a very happy person."

Kerr married the British-born actor in 2010 and they divorced three years later. The now amicable exes share one son, Flynn, 5.

"The most important thing is that when he has his time with me, we have quality time together, and when he's with his dad, he has quality time with him," Kerr shared. "And it works out really well because I book in my photo shoots for the time he's with his dad, and the rest of the time I just get to be a mom."

The 33-year-old said the experience helped her discover that "all of the answers" you need "are deep inside of you."

"Sit with yourself, take a few breaths and get close to your spirit."
