Katie Couric made sure to dance up a storm with old friends and wear a sleeveless black dress for her birthday party. However, the TV journalist and author didn’t always feel so confident about turning 60.
“I was dreading it, even though that isn’t what I’m supposed to say!” said Couric to Closer Weekly on reaching the milestone birthday.
Since then, Couric has developed a new mindset on getting older and is eager to shatter one stereotype about aging: “That when you turn 60, you should head to Florida and move in with the Golden Girls!” she told the publication.
Instead, Couric insisted that she’s more energized than ever and even joked that she’s “working my a-- off.” She also credited a fitness regimen of “spin, yoga and trying some meditation” to help her stay fit and focused.
“If you put out a lot of positive energy, it helps you with the aging process,” she added.
One friend confirmed that Couric has embraced turning 60 and is gearing up for the next phase of her personal journey.
“When a lot of people hit 60, they’re looking for a career exit plan and winding down what they do in life,” said Couric’s friend. “But for Katie, she feels she’s just getting started.”
The new issue of Closer Weekly is currently on newsstands.
