The music world was consumed on Thursday with the news Prince died at 57, however Justin Bieber managed to still make waves.

The controversial pop star angered Prince fans when he felt the need to chime in on Prince’s legacy.

Rocker Andrew Watt shared a tribute to Prince on Instagram. He wrote: “today waking up to this news I am truly beside myself...devastated...the last of the greatest living performers...”

In a comment that has since been deleted, but was captured in screengrabs, an account with Bieber’s photo and official username — justinbieber — replied, “Well not the last greatest living performer.”

Fans immediately began posting hateful messages on the thread, directed at Bieber.

One commenter called Bieber “arrogant and insensitive” while another declared: “Love Canada hate @justinbieber so much… he shouldn't compare himself to Prince he was better than MJ.”

Bieber has yet to post on social media about Prince’s death.

Meanwhile, many music industry insiders have taken to social media to express their sadness.

"Today is the worst day ever. Prince R.I.P I am crying!" Boy George wrote.

Katy Perry added, "And just like that...the world lost a lot of magic Rest in peace Prince! Thanks for giving us so much."
