With Hollywood couples splitting up left and right these days, Goldie Hawn is glad she never tied the knot.

In fact, the 70-year-old actress said the secret to her 33-year relationship to fellow actor Kurt Russell is that they never made it down the aisle.

"I would have been long divorced if I got married," Hawn said on Britain's ITV "Loose Women" Monday.

"If you need to be bound to someone, then it's important to be married," she shared. "If you are independent, then it's important to not be married.

Hawn and Russell, 65, first became involved on the set of "swing Shift" in 1984. Together they have on son, actor Wyatt Russell.

"We like the choice and we chose to stay. We're always asked why we are not married. Why? What is marriage going to do for us? At the beginning, you want to see each other all the time," she explained. "Then you get jealous when they’re gone too long and that’s exciting. But for a healthy long-term relationship, then 68 per cent of the time is good."

Hawn was previously married to dancer Gus Trikonis and musician Bill Hudson. She has two kids with Hudson - actors Kate and Oliver Hudson.
