Frances Sternhagen, known for roles on "Cheers" and "Sex and the City," died Monday. She was 93.
Sternhagen's family confirmed to Fox News Digital that the acclaimed actress died from "natural causes."
"It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear mother, actress Frances Sternhagen, died peacefully of natural causes in New Rochelle, NY, on November 27th, 2023 at the age of 93," her family said in a statement provided to Fox News Digital.

"She is survived by her 6 children, 9 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. A celebration of her remarkable career and life is planned for mid January, near her 94th birthday. We continue to be inspired by her love and life."
Sternhagen earned three Emmy nominations throughout her career. Two of the noms came for her portrayal of Esther Clavin, postman Cliff Clavin's mother on "Cheers."
She also earned a nod for playing Bunny McDougal on "Sex and the City," the affluent and overbearing mother-in-law of Charlotte York (played by Kristin Davis).

Sternhagen also starred as Noah Wyle's wealthy grandmother Millicent Carter on more than a dozen episodes of the medical drama "ER," and played Kyra Sedgwick's mother, Willie Ray Johnson, on "The Closer."
She had more than 70 film and television credits to her name, with her last acting role in the 2014 film "And So It Goes."

Not only was Sternhagen a star on the silver screen, she was also a staple on Broadway and earned two Tony Awards in addition to seven nominations.

She starred as Ethel Thayer in the original 1979 production of "On Golden Pond," and played the role of Clairee when "Steel Magnolias" debuted on Broadway in 2005.
Sternhagen won a Tony in 1974 for her role in Neil Simon's "The Good Doctor," and a second trophy the following year for "The Heiress." She last performed on Broadway in the 2005 play "Seascape."
