Fox411 Country: Lady Antebellum's victorious week, Dierks Bentley tops charts

The Fox 411 Country Round-up starts on the red carpet of the 54th Annual Grammy Awards.

The night was a mix of reflection on the music of this past year, and remembering the late pop icon Whitney Houston who died the night before. Several country singers shared with us their thoughts on the superstar as they made their way in for the event.

Miranda Lambert said, “it's the one night that celebrates all genres of music and what better way to celebrate Whitney Houston then be at the Grammys.”

Billy Ray Cyrus made note of Houston’s hits from the 80s and “all the great music that became the backdrops of a really fun time period".

We also spoke with country stars on the red carpet about what it meant for them to attend that evening, from Eric Church who was attending for his very first time to Gregg Allman who was honored with a lifetime achievement award.

Those who went home with brand new Grammy Awards Sunday night include the members of Lady Antebellum, winning Best Country Album for “Own the Night.” The trio was genuinely surprised, with Charles Kelley saying, “everybody loves to say they were shocked but truly did not feel we had a chance this year just because last year was so life-changing.”  He added he feels they are “growing even closer as a band and becoming even more comfortable talking about the things that –maybe on the first couple records we wouldn’t talk about so hopefully we’ll keep growing… I think we would all say we feel the most proud of this third record.”

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift won two Grammy Awards bringing her career total to six.  She nabbed “Best Country Song” and “Best Country Solo Performance” for her #1 single “Mean.”  Swift performed the tune during the show and also earned herself a standing ovation.

The Civil Wars, who also entertained during the show, won for “Country Performance by a Duo or Group” for “Barton Hollow”.

Receiving honors over in Washington D.C., Mel Tillis was given the National Medal of Arts by President Barack Obama February 13th.  Among those also honored that night were actor Al Pacino, author Rita Dove, and artist Will Barnett.  The National Medal of Arts is the highest award given to artists and art patrons by the United States Government.

“I’ve had a blessed career, and that has been acknowledged in many ways over the years” Tillis says of the award, adding “I was pleasantly surprised when I got the call because I didn’t know there were anymore awards left to win. I’m very thankful and what an honor!”

Then getting kudos on the charts, Dierks Bentley!  As he tops the Billboard Country Album Chart this week with his sixth studio album “Home” making it his fourth career debut there.  Bentley has kicked off his 2012 Country & Cold Cans Tour already and he also now plays our featured song of the week.
