Bob Geldof blames himself for the death of his daughter, Peaches, who died from an overdose earlier this year, he revealed in a new interview.

“You’re the father who is responsible and clearly failed,” he told ITV News. “For anybody watching, who has a dead kid and you’re a parent. You go back, you go back, you go back, you go back, you go back, you go over, you go over. What could you have done? You do as much as you can.”

The singer said he blamed himself for the death of the 25-year-old mother of two boys, who had taken up heroin in the months before her death.

Peaches Geldof was found dead by her husband, Tom Cohen at their home in Kent in April. Their youngest son, 11-month-old Phaedra was in the house with her.

Bob Geldof admitted that he knew his daughter was using heroin again and, “we did more than talk about it.”

He described his second daughter who worked as a journalist and television presenter as “super bright” but possessed a frantic quality.

She had a “very errant mind that could focus intensely on a book which she would consume and just absorb it,” he explained. “But the rest was a franticness – she knew what life was supposed to be and God bless her she tried very hard to get there. And she didn’t make it.”

An inquest found that the cause of death was opiate intoxication. There was no evidence it was deliberate.
