Ben Affleck responds to Jennifer Garner's Vanity Fair interview

Ben Affleck has broken his silence over ex-wife Jennifer Garner’s revealing interview about their split.

Garner last month denied reports the nanny had come between her and her husband of 10 years, but revealed Affleck could be absent and “cold”.

“We had been separated for months before I ever heard about the nanny. She had nothing to do with our decision to divorce,” she told Vanity Fair.

She added about Affleck: “I always say, ‘When his sun shines on you, you feel it. But when the sun is shining elsewhere, it’s cold.’ He can cast quite a shadow.”

Affleck rarely comments on his private life, but opened up about his ex’s interview to The New York Times.

The father-of-three said he understood why Garner got so candid about her marriage meltdown.

“She felt like she wanted to discuss it and get it out there and get it over with so she could say, ‘Look, I already talked about it — I don’t want to do it again’,” he said. “It’s fine. She’s allowed to talk about it.”

The 43-year-old added: “Jen’s great. She’s a great person. We’re on great terms. I just saw her this morning, so that’s the reality that I live in.”

The couple announced their shock separation last year, just a day after celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary.

Affleck was accused in the tabloids of having an affair with the family nanny, 28-year-old Christine Ouzounian, but has always denied it.

Since separating, Garner revealed she has been suffering from insomnia and now shares a room with her daughter Violet.

The "Daredevil" actress also said she has learnt to switch off from technology to avoid reading or seeing reports about her marriage breakdown.

“I cannot be driven by the optics of this. I cannot let anger or hurt be my engine. I need to move with the big picture always on my mind, and the kids first and foremost,” she told Vanity Fair for its March 2016 cover story.

But despite her obvious sadness at the separation, Garner still spoke lovingly of Affleck, describing him as the love of her life.

“It was a real marriage,” the 43-year-old said. “It wasn’t for the cameras. And it was a huge priority for me to stay in it. And that did not work.”
