ANDERSON, S.C. – A South Carolina sheriff's deputy has shot and wounded a burglary suspect who authorities say pointed a gun at her.
Anderson County Sheriff Chad McBride told news outlets the shooting happened shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Deputies were called after a woman saw a man enter her home. McBride said the woman ran out of the home and was confronted by the man who pointed a gun at her before getting in a van.
McBride says the deputy ordered the man to get out of the van and he also pointed a gun at her. The sheriff said the deputy fired several shots, wounding the suspect, who was taken to AnMed Health Center in Anderson.
"It looks like it is a survivable wound," McBride said.
No one else was hurt.
Investigators found the man's gun, the sheriff said.
The names of the suspect and the deputy have not been released.
The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting. SLED spokesman Thom Berry said both the deputy and the suspect are white.
It is the 24th shooting involving a law enforcement officer in South Carolina this year, Berry said. There had been 18 such shootings at the same time last year.
