SANTA ANA, Calif. – A California sex offender who was being tracked by GPS has been found guilty of killing four women.
Orange County jurors deliberated for about an hour Thursday before finding Steven Dean Gordon guilty of four counts of murder for the attacks in 2013 and 2014. Jurors also found true special circumstances of murder during a kidnapping and multiple murders, which will make Gordon eligible for the death penalty.
Authorities say the 47-year-old Gordon and 30-year-old sex offender Franc Cano picked up four women who they later abducted and killed. Prosecutors charged both men with rape but later dropped the rape charges against Gordon.
Investigators say they pieced together the case after one of the bodies was found at a recycling center. Authorities say the men's tracking devices linked them to the missing women.
Gordon confessed to authorities in an interview played for jurors about his role in the killings. He represented himself at trial.
