JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police in Florida say an armed suspect fleeing the scene of a shooting was injured after an officer shot him during a chase.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Director Tom Hackney says the shooting occurred early Saturday morning.
Hackney says two officers were investigating reports of a shooting involving a black car that injured two people.
The officers at the scene saw a black car drive by, and pursued it.
Hackney says a passenger in the vehicle jumped out and ran into a wooded ditch behind a home. He says the suspect had a firearm, which was recovered.
Hackney says Officer Matt Hice chased the suspect and fired four shots, hitting the suspect once in the leg.
Neither the race of the officer nor the suspect was immediately available.
