Authorities say a suspect was killed in a shooting that also wounded two deputies in north Georgia.

It began Saturday around 9 p.m. when deputies responded to a domestic dispute in Pickens County.

Pickens County Sheriff's Lt. Kris Stancil told Atlanta station WXIA-TV that two people had gotten into an argument and when deputies arrived, they encountered a man with a gun who deputies said would not cooperate.

The man fired at the deputies and wounded them. The deputies and others who responded returned fire, killing the suspect.

Stancil says one deputy's protective vest prevented serious injury. He says the other was shot in an extremity. The deputies' injuries aren't considered life-threatening.

Stancil says the suspect's name hasn't been released.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate.
