An Oklahoma man has been executed for the 1988 stabbing death of an Oklahoma City woman who was a family friend.

Prison officials say 52-year-old Kenneth Eugene Hogan received a lethal injection Thursday at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester for the murder of Lisa Stanley. It was the second execution in Oklahoma this month.

Hogan admitted to stabbing Stanley but claimed self-defense, saying she attacked him with a knife. Stanley was stabbed more than 25 times. The state Pardon and Parole Board denied clemency for Hogan by a 4-1 vote.

Hogan's first conviction was overturned in 1999 when an appeals court said the jury should have been allowed to consider a manslaughter verdict. Hogan was re-tried in 2003 and again convicted and sentenced to death.
