Oakland Athletics third baseman Josh Donaldson was named American League Player of the Month for his performance during the month of September.

Donaldson batted .337 (30-for-89) with eight doubles, five home runs, 16 RBI and 20 runs scored in 25 games to claim his first monthly honor and the first for the Athletics since Eric Chavez took home the monthly award in Sept. 2001.

The 27-year-old finished the 2013 campaign with a .301 batting average, 24 home runs and 93 RBI en route to helping the A's to a first place finish in the AL West.

Others receiving votes included David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox; Coco Crisp and Yoenis Cespedes of the Athletics; Adam Lind of the Toronto Blue Jays; Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros; Robinson Cano of the New York Yankees; Alex Rios of the Texas Rangers; Michael Brantley of the Cleveland Indians; and Salvador Perez of the Kansas City Royals.
