“Maybe we'll make a flying car, just for fun."

Yea, that’s how Elon Musk rolls. Or, perhaps, doesn’t roll.

The PayPal/Tesla/SpaceX billionaire told The Independent he’s been thinking about it quite a lot, and believes it’d be easy to build, harder to sell.

"We could definitely make a flying car,” he said, “but that's not the hard part. The hard part is, how do you make a flying car that's super safe and quiet? Because if it's a howler, you're going to make people very unhappy."

Musk knows something about making fast, quiet vehicles, his Tesla Model S electric car zips down the road without a sound, but the rockets he’s been sending to the International Space Station are a little bit louder.

Interestingly, Nikola Tesla, the namesake of Musk’s car company, once proposed a flying machine that relied on electrostatic force.

Musk didn’t offer any thoughts on how his version might work, but you can be sure he’ll let the world know when he does, as he did with plans for his 800 mph Hyperloop.

Then again, he may have offered a hint of what he has planned during his cameo appearance in “Iron Man 2:”
