Lena Dunham was hospitalized immediately following her appearance at Monday night’s Met Gala, Fox News has learned.
Dunham, 30, has since been released from the hospital and is currently “at home resting and doing well,” a source close to the actress revealed. The source indicated the recent hospitalization was a result of the star’s battle with endometriosis.
The star, whose hit show “Girls” recently aired its series finale, has been open about her battle with endometriosis and has been an advocate for women suffering from the medical disorder.
In February 2016, Dunham had to cancel several appearances to promote the fifth season of “Girls” because she was going through “a rough patch with the illness,” she revealed to fans via social media. One month later, Dunham underwent surgery after experiencing an ovarian cyst rupture.
But last month, she told subscribers to her Lenny Letter website she was “disease-free” after undergoing yet another surgery.
“When I emerged, cotton-mouthed, [Dr. Randy Harris] told me something I hadn’t expected to hear, maybe ever: there was no endometriosis left,” she wrote in early April, according to Entertainment Weekly. “Between my surgeries and hormonal intervention, I was disease-free. That doesn’t mean it can never return, but for now, once my sutures have been removed and my bruises have changed from blue to yellow to green to gone, I will be healthy.”
On Monday night, Dunham attended the star-studded annual Met Gala in a one-shoulder maroon Elizabeth Kennedy gown. She appeared to be in good spirits at the event, posting a few snapshots from the red carpet on her Instagram account as she posed with fellow celebs and showed off her look.
A rep for Dunham had no comment.
