Wife says Palestinian held by Israel to end 55-day hunger strike in exchange for release

The wife of a prominent Palestinian detainee says he has agreed to end a 55-day hunger strike and in exchange will be released by Israel.

Rights groups have warned in recent days that Khader Adnan is near death.

Randa Adnan visited her husband in an Israeli hospital over the weekend and said Monday he has lost a lot of weight and "looked like a small child."

Sivan Weizman of the Israel Prison Authority says an agreement has been reached on Adnan ending his hunger strike, but had no details.

Adnan is a senior activist in the militant group Islamic Jihad. He has been held for extended periods without charges. This time, he has been detained without being charged for a year.

Adnan's wife says he will be released July 12.
