A woman dumped white powder -- apparently flour -- on the leading candidate in France's presidential elections during a campaign appearance.

The woman ran to the side of the podium where Socialist Francois Hollande stood on Wednesday to sign a "social contract" in favor of housing for all.

Body guards who jumped in to protect Hollande also took a dusting.

The powder attacker, who later said she was 45, was immobilized then carried from the stage by her hands and feet.

Hollande, his glasses, hair and suit covered in white, remained calm throughout the incident.

After the attack, the woman screamed that she was suffering from injustice but wasn't specific.

Hollande has consistently led polls, well ahead of President Nicolas Sarkozy.
