A U.S. woman who organized volunteer medical missions in Central America has been found stabbed to death in the capital of Costa Rica.

Police say the body of 45-year-old Sondra Lynn was found on a bed at a San Jose hotel.

The Vida Volunteer organization she founded identified her as Sondra Lynn Elizondo.

The organization based in Merritt Island, Florida, helps provide health and veterinary care in Guatemala, Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

Her body was found Thursday. Police gave no immediate information on a possible motive in the killing.

Vida Volunteer said she was a social worker and Minnesota native who currently resided in Florida.
