A U.S. congressman says six American men detained for weeks in Honduras accused of violating weapons laws have been released from prison.

U.S. Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick says in a Thursday statement the six men are "in the process of traveling back to the United States."

Fitzpatrick says he visited the men in Honduras on Monday and has been involved since May in efforts to release them. He says one of the men is the son of one of his constituents.

The crewmen from Florida-based Aqua Quest International were put in a prison in Puerto Lempira since May 5, after Honduran authorities raided their newly arrived 65-foot vessel and found weapons.

The company said the crew was working on a project to help lobster divers in the town of Ahuas.
