U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is heading to Cuba to address the opening session of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.

U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric said Monday that during his visit to Havana, the secretary-general will also meet Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel and other senior officials.

The commission said its biennial meeting from May 7-11 will be attended by more than 25 ministers and senior officials from over 20 countries in the region.

It is one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations promoting economic and social development in different areas of the world.

Dujarric said Guterres will return to New York on Monday evening.
