Ukrainian president signs memorandum of cooperation with UAE on military and technical issues

Ukraine's president says his country has signed an agreement to cooperate with the United Arab Emirates on military and technical issues as he licked off a visit to the Western-allied Gulf nation.

Petro Poroshenko did not provide details about the memorandum signed on Tuesday. He spoke during a visit to the International Defense Exhibition in the Emirati capital of Abu Dhabi.

IDEX is the Middle East's largest arms bazaar, bringing together defense companies and government and military officials from around the world.

Poroshenko says he hopes Ukraine can soon obtain additional "defensive weapons" to help defend the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Talks about a fragile peace deal for Ukraine are underway in Paris between the foreign ministers of Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France.
