Ukrainian parliament fails to pass law on Tymoshenko release, endangering EU deal

Ukrainian lawmakers have refused to support a bill that would allow the release of jailed former premier Yulia Tymoshenko, a key condition for Ukraine's integration with the European Union.

Members of President Viktor Yanukovych's Party of Regions on Thursday did not vote in favor of even one of the six bills meant to allow Tymosehnko's release ahead of a Ukraine-EU summit next week. Opposition lawmakers responded with chants of "Shame! Shame!"
