UK counterterrorism police investigate explosion near mosque

LONDON – British police say they are treating an explosion near a mosque in central England as suspected terrorism. No injuries have been reported.

Residents in the town of Tipton reported hearing a loud bang and finding nails near the mosque, according to West Midlands Police.

The immediate area is being evacuated as a precautionary measure.

In recent weeks, British police have reported an increase in attacks against Muslim mosques and community center.
