British police say they have arrested four men on suspicion of raising money for terrorism and traveling to Pakistan to be trained as terrorists.

West Midlands Police say the men, ages 19 to 24, were detained at their homes in early morning raids.

Police say Tuesday's arrests in the central England city of Birmingham were planned and were not in response to any immediate threat to public safety.

Eight others arrested in September in the same counterterrorism operation have been charged with terror-related offenses including plotting suicide bomb attacks in Britain.
