A senior Pakistani police officer says twin blasts near a church in the eastern city of Lahore has wounded at least 27 worshippers.

Haider Ashraf says the explosions occurred in quick succession in the Christian neighborhood of Youhana Abad during Sunday services inside the church.

Ashraf says police are investigating whether the blasts came from a planted bomb or a suicide attack.

Local television footage showed an angry crowd beating a person they thought was connected to the attack.

No group has claimed responsibility for the bombings.

Islamist extremist groups and militants have targeted Christians and other religious minorities in Pakistan in past.
