An economics adviser to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says he has two guns and hundreds of bullets and is prepared to use them to protect his boss.

Yigit Bulut told state television TRT late Tuesday: "Nobody can touch the elected president of this country before I am killed, shot or hanged."

His comments came after Erdogan accused daily newspaper Hurriyet of suggesting in a headline that he could share the same fate as the ousted Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi who was recently sentenced to death. Hurriyet denies the accusation.

Bulut, who has advised Erdogan on economic issues since July 2013, is known for making eccentric statements.

He has previously suggested that Erdogan's enemies were trying to kill him through telekinesis.
