Austrian railway officials say two passenger trains have collided head-on near the southern city of Graz, killing one person and leaving at least another seriously injured.

Railway representative Helmut Wittmann says the accident Wednesday killed one of the train engineers.

The Austrian Automobile Club says a 60-year-old female passenger has been flown by helicopter to a hospital in critical condition, while several others sustained less serious injuries.

Wittmann says initial investigations suggest one of the engineers appeared to have overlooked a signal light.
