MELBOURNE, Australia -- Thousands of people were evacuated from a domestic terminal at a major Australian airport on Thursday morning due to a security breach, Sky News Australia reported.
A man was spotted on closed circuit TV at Melbourne Airport entering the "sterile" area of the Qantas airline terminal via the exit doors from the baggage collection area.
A Qantas spokesman said the man was seen entering through the out door but security staff watching monitors lost track of him once inside the terminal.
The security breach sent the airport into chaos with 6,000 commuters cleared out of the terminal to enable them to be rescreened by security.
The incident has delayed at least five Qantas flights.
