Thai police say they are making major progress on tracking down perpetrators of last week's bombings at several tourist destinations that killed four people and wounded dozens, including 11 foreign travelers.

Deputy police spokesman Col. Krisana Pattanacharoen said Wednesday that investigators believed their probe was 70 percent completed, but he declined to divulge details. He acknowledged an arrest warrant has been issued for a suspect believed to be connected with homemade bombs found in Phuket, one of seven towns where bombings and arson attacks took place last Thursday and Friday.

The authorities have issued vague, conflicting statements on which groups they think were responsible for the attacks, though media and scholars suspect Muslim separatists who have been waging an insurgency in Thailand's deep south.
