LONDON – A poem by Ted Hughes that describes the night his wife Sylvia Plath killed herself has been published for the first time.
The draft poem, called "Last Letter," chronicles Hughes' perspective of the days leading up to Plath's death in her London home on Feb. 11, 1963.
The poem is held in the British Library's archives, which bought it from Hughes' third wife, Carol Hughes. It was published in the New Statesman magazine Thursday.
The doomed romance of Hughes and Plath, both celebrated poets, continues to fascinate the literary world.
Plath gassed herself at age 30.
Hughes, who went on to become poet laureate, died in 1998.
