ZURICH -- Switzerland's central bank chief has denied wrongdoing and insists he will not step down from his post amid allegations of insider trading on currency deals.

Philipp Hildebrand says he is "not aware of having committed any legal errors" after it was revealed that he and his wife conducted currency transactions at a time when he was spearheading efforts to lower the value of the Swiss franc.

The 48-year-old president of the Swiss National Bank says he "at all times acted not just according to the rules but also correctly."

In response to a question from The Associated Press, Hildebrand said "resignation is not an issue for me."
