Thousands of people of different faiths have gathered in Denmark and Sweden in a show of unity after attacks against Jews in Europe.

In Copenhagen, people formed a "ring of peace" Friday on the City Hall Square, where Mayor Frank Jensen said "a mad man must not succeed in creating a rift." Near Stockholm's synagogue, the crowd, including Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven, held hands Friday as they formed a human chain.

The gatherings were inspired by a similar event in Oslo, Norway, last weekend.

In Paris, three Muslim gunmen killed 17 people in attacks in January. Earlier this month, a single assailant in Copenhagen killed a Jewish security guard outside a synagogue and a Danish filmmaker attending a free speech event.
