BANGKOK – Thailand's interior ministry says 14 people have died from severe flooding in the country's south.
It said in a statement Tuesday that six days of floods have affected over half a million people. It said 14 people have died and is missing.
Southern Thailand is a popular destination for visitors due to its scenic islands and beaches, and the floods are expected to put a dent in the area's tourist industry, as winter is typically high season.
However, the waters are receding, with three of the 11 provinces now off the list of flooded provinces. A fourth province is expected to be cleared soon.
But meteorologists are still expecting more heavy rains in southern Thailand next week.
