A spokesman says four U.N. peacekeepers were killed in in northern Mali when their vehicle hit an explosive.

Olivier Salgado of the U.N. peacekeeping mission says a car containing Chadian troops hit the roadside bomb Thursday near Aguel'hoc. In addition to the four killed, three peacekeepers were wounded.

The region has been the scene of earlier mine explosions, including one that killed four U.N. peacekeepers and wounded several others earlier this month.

The peacekeepers are trying to stabilize Mali after a French-led war ousted the jihadists from power in 2013.
