JOHANNESBURG – A South African foundation says retired archbishop Desmond Tutu is home after a weeklong hospital stay and is under doctors' orders to rest.
The statement from the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation said Tutu returned home on Tuesday wearing a dressing gown embroidered with the words "Feet Up Arch."
It added that the Tutu family thanked doctors for their work and the public for their support.
The 83-year-old Nobel laureate was admitted to a Cape Town hospital last week where he received treatment for a "stubborn infection." An earlier statement said he was treated with a course of intensive antibiotics administered intravenously.
Tutu's daughter Mpho Tutu said her father's treatment was not related to his prostate cancer, which he has had for 18 years and is currently dormant.
