A Quebec City man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of an 82-year-old French tourist.

Sylvain Fournier, 41, was also charged Monday with attempted murder for allegedly attacking the man's 76-year-old wife. She was listed in stable condition at a hospital on Monday afternoon.

The two were found lying on the ground and were taken to a hospital after the altercation at an apartment building Sunday night.

Police have not yet released the victims' identities.

Fournier is expected to undergo a psychological evaluation to determine whether he is fit to stand trial.
