A former police officer in Puerto Rico has been charged with killing his ex-girlfriend nearly a year ago.

A judge found enough evidence to charge Roberto Quinones Rivera on Tuesday with first-degree murder and destruction of evidence in the killing of Yexeira (jex-AY-ra) Torres Pacheco. She disappeared in October 2011 and her body has not been found.

Quinones is already in prison. He received a 42-month sentence earlier this month for having a fake driver's license and a bulletproof vest that authorities say he illegally obtained from the police department.
